Sungai Besi re-development still in secrecy

Harakahdaily
Oct 12: The BN government's continued silence over development plans for the Sungai Besi airbase linked to flamboyant billionaire Taek Jho Low has been questioned by a PAS member of parliament.

"Najib’s administration has clearly ignored the people’s concern from the start when he transferred the airbase which has strategic values and history to the 1Malaysia Development Fund (1MDB),” Kubang Kerian MP Salahuddin Ayub (right) told Harakahdaily today.

The project, which is said to be awarded to Jho Low, has been part the the Budget's second rolling plan as detailed in the 10th Malaysia Plan.

According to Salahuddin, there had been no answer forthcoming on the transfer which was shrouded in secrecy, and linked with 1MDB’s controversial cash investment of RM3.5 billion in PetroSaudi International Limited and UBG Berhad, of which Jho Low was a director.

"The people are questioning whether there is need to involve so many foreign companies like Mubadala Development Company and Qatar Investment Authority as developers of the project when local companies are equally capable,” said the PAS vice president.

Urging the government to come clean over the deal, Salahuddin said such deals proved that the 2012 budget was focused more on "Jho Low-type projects" than to solve people's hardship.

“No wonder the prime minister's wife was so interested with the budget,” he remarked, referring to Rosmah Mansor’s presence at a high profile closed door meeting in the treasury before the tabling of the budget by Najib Razak last Friday.
