PASSENGER HOIST CUM MATERIAL HOIST

Is it ok to use the passenger hoist as material hoisting machine? I'm not so sure yet but logically, it is not ok. Why?
1. U donno the load imposed by the materials
2.Time wasted as u have to wait for the loading and unloading of materials
3.Safety - its not wise to mix up human and materials in one cage that moving up and down the 40 storey building

SIAPA SALAH?

Jom kita cari siapa salah dalam kes tangga di gambar berikut:

Akitek akan design tangga macam dalam plan kat bawah ni. (Dalam plan ni ada 2 tangga, ambil sebelah je utk rujukan)

Engineer akan buat plan struktur berdasarkan plan akitek ni. Kemudian plan2 ini diberi kepada kontraktor untuk membina tangga tersebut. Apabila hasilnya seperti gambar di atas, siapa salah?

Bagi sebuah projek besar, akitek dan engineer akan ada wakil di tapak, samada Resident Engineer/Architect dan/atau  Clerk of Work berdasarkan nilai projek dan keperluan kontrak. Mereka ini akan mempastikan kerja kontraktor adalah betul sebagaimana plan. Mereka akan membuat pemeriksaan untuk setiap peringkat pembinaan dari peringkat formwork, besi tetulang dan kerja konkrit.  Namun begitu, sekiranya berlaku juga sebagaimana gambar di atas, siapa salah?

The Glass Balconies of the Sears Tower in Chicago

The owners of the Sears Tower, the tallest skyscraper in the United States (Chicago), inaugurated last week four glass box viewing platforms. These balconies are suspended 1,353 feet (412 meters) in the air on the 103rd floor. They are 10ft high and 10ft wide and can hold 5 tons with their 1.5 inch thick glasses.

Really impressive and definitively something to try...
