PETALING JAYA: The developer, who was awarded the RM130mil contract to build a flyover leading to the new Istana Negara, has denied an Opposition MP’s claim that it was responsible for the collapse of a stadium roof at the Gong Badak Sports Complex in Terengganu.

On Tuesday, DAP’s Taiping MP Nga Kor Ming accused Ahmad Zaki Resources Bhd (AZRB) for being the contractor responsible for the construction of the stadium in Terengganu where the roof collapsed less than a year after completion.

Nga also said AZRB was the contractor behind the Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2) where cracks appeared in the pillars on its elevated highway, a claim denied by the company.

It was learnt that AZRB was responsible for building the RM116mil indoor stadium complex in Terengganu and not the outdoor stadium where the roof collapsed. This was also confirmed by Works Ministry sources.

“We note with deep regret the allegations linking us with the construction of the main stadium project at Gong Badak Sports Complex in Terengganu and Middle Ring Road 2.

“AZRB wishes to state firmly and categorically that it was never involved with the said projects in whatever manner or form. The allegations as reported are baseless, false and made with bad intent,” AZRB said in a statement yesterday.

Speaking to reporters at the Parliament lobby on Tuesday, Nga said there was no reason for AZRB to be awarded the flyover project via direct negotiations given its “poor track record”.

AZRB had also denied claims that it was blacklisted by the Works Ministry.
